Chile – The commitment of the Don Bosco Foundation: a touching testimony |
(ANS – Santiago) – Last winter, from June to September in the Southern Hemisphere, the Don Bosco Foundation of Chile, through its programmes made over 1,500 contributions and warmly welcomed over 250 infants, young people and adults.
With the financial support of the Ministry for Social Development, the Foundation had fulfilled the "Plan for the Winter", which provided protection for children and adolescents who live on the street even during the months in which the temperatures are lower. The Foundation has already carried out this activity since 2007. This year the welcoming projects have had as residences the hostels “Don Bosco Acompaña” and “Miguel Magone”, in the area of Quinta Normal, which throughout the winter season have hosted 253 children.
The "Ruta Calle" programme was also implemented at the same time: to visit children, youth and adults who were offered first place companionship, listening, human closeness, warmth and food, blankets and warm clothes, so as to improve their conditions, human and material. In total, 1560 welcoming projects were made with this programme.
The activities for street children were coordinated and carried out by the team and represent an excellent example of using the "superpower of help" – as shown by the solidarity campaign promoted by the Don Bosco Foundation.
