(ANS - San Salvador) - The Project of the “Ciudadela Don Bosco” Oratory in Soyapango and the “Mamma Margherita” Meals for the Elderly in San Salvador were two of the ten non-governmental projects rewarded by the “Gloria de Kriete” Foundation for the effective social service they provide. The award ceremony was held on 18 July.
At the weekend the Oratory-Youth Centre in Soyapango provides for about 955 youngsters who play football: 46 teams in the official championships and 13 in those at the Oratory: neighbourhood youngsters, gang leaders and those socially at risk.
The Mary Help of Christians parish received 50,000 dollars for the “Mamma Margherita” Meals for the Elderly which for 26 years has been providing breakfast and lunch for a hundred elderly people and making medical and life-enhancing treatment available. The project is run by volunteers and benefactors.
Each year the “Gloria de Kriete” Foundation picks out three of the best national projects. This year “Ciudadela Don Bosco” received the second prize and a grant of 75,000 dollars for the consolidation of the Don Bosco Youth Centre.
Last year the “Don Bosco Polygon” received the first prize and 100,000 dollars. Five years ago it was the turn of the “Polideportivos Don Bosco” for all they do for education and training in an area of high risk youth violence.
The “Gloria de Kriete” Foundation promotes voluntary organisations involved in social benefit projects in El Salvador. The Award “Helping those who help 2012”, in its seventh year involved 69 organisations divided into various categories.
