(ANS – Phnom Penh) – Cambodian teachers, staff, volunteers who have worked with the Salesians to help educate and build up the lives of Cambodian youngsters, celebrated the 20 years of service by the “Don Bosco Children Fund” (DBCF), on 11 April 2012.

The Don Bosco Children Fund, is a special program of the Don Bosco Foundation of Cambodia that was opened in 1992 to attend children from disadvantage communities and orphans. It guarantees that poor children can attend school through a strict program of sponsors. The project has its main quarters in Phnom Penh and offices in Poipet, Battambang and Sihanoukville.

Don Bosco Children Fund promotes activities and projects under the acronym HELP: H-Health, E-Education, L-Love, P-Protection. The aim of the Fund is to educate children and build their future.

To mark this memorable event, the DBCF management paused to give its mission partners, the staff and teachers-volunteers their Loyalty Awards for service, awards recognising five, ten, fifteen, twenty years respectively with certificates and plaques of loyalty. This ceremony took place on 11th April 2012 in the presence of the management, teachers and students of Don Bosco Technical School, Phnom Penh, Cambodia.

DBCF ha served 9,318 poor and marginalised children and presently: 4,455 children are still in the program to access to compulsory Basic Elementary and Literacy Education, while a further 490 PLHA children (People Living with HIV/AIDS) are offered health and opportunities to education like any ordinary child in Cambodia.
