(ANS – Guadalajara) – In spite of the fact that his presence in the country was for family reasons, the Rector Major, Fr Pascual Chávez, did not want to miss the opportunity to pay a visit to Guadalajara, and on Sunday 6 November he had a simple but moving meeting with many Salesians from his Province of origin, Mexico-Guadalajara.
On Sunday 6 November, there was a Mass at which over 60 Salesians and some Daughters of Mary Help of Christians in Guadalajara, with their new Provincial, Sr Myrna Rodriguez took part.
In his homily, the Rector Major referred to the Gospel of the day, to the “wise virgins and foolish virgins” relating it to the current life and situation of the Province and of Salesian Mexico.
Afterwards Fr Chávez had a meeting with the Salesians at which he shared some thoughts about the life of the Salesian Congregation, especially, as over a period of three years, it prepares to celebrate the bicentenary of the birth of Don Bosco, and also the approaching fiftieth anniversary in 2013 of the founding of the Mexico-Guadalajara Province. This was followed by the Rector Major sharing a meal together with the Salesians present.
The short visit of the Rector Major to Messico concludes today, 9 November, with a talk by Fr Chávez to the members of the Mexican Bishops’ Conference meeting at the Lago de Guadalupe, after which he will return to Rome.
