Vatican – “Youcat”, the catechism for the young |
(ANS – Tlaquepaque) – On 1 November the Higher Salesian Institute, formerly the Salesian Theological Institute, organised a study day on Youcat, the catechism for young people. About a 100 people took part including the students of the HSI and youth workers mainly from the city of Guadalajara.
The day began with a talk by Fr Francisco González Ruiz SDB, a professor at the HIS on the relationship between the Youcat and the “Catechism of the Catholic Church”, and also other texts or catechisms which form its historical background.
The main event was a talk by Bishop Héctor Luis Morales Sánchez of Nezahualcoyotl and President of the DEMPAJ (Youth Department of the Mexican Bishops’ Conference), who spoke about its value for young people who can find in it a text enabling them to understand more easily, thanks to its style of language and presentation, the truths and practices of the Christian Faith contained in the Catechism of the Catholic Church.
Then some students of Theology from HSI spoke about Youcat starting from certain issues ad perspectives on which they had undertaken some research (from the point of view of content and presentation) and the pastoral value of the document.
The Day was jointly organised by the Institute and the Youth Ministry Department of the Mexico-Guadalajara Province.
Within a few days on the site of the Province some material including a video of the day, the first to be held in the country on Youcat, will be available.
