In preparing for their missionary travels, the volunteers have been involved in a series of very original initiatives: On Saturday 4 June they organised a car-wash service in the car park of the “Tigne Point” Shopping Centre.
In just 5 hours they washed 75 cars and raised 650 €. A further 120 € was donated by Alison Gauci, a Manager of the Tigne Point Centre who was a great help to the young people in organising the event. Special thanks are also owed to Kevin Baker, another Manager who helped in promoting the project.
Even some representatives of the local authorities went to the car-wash to support the volunteers in their charitable activity during which the young people showed great enthusiasm, cheerfulness and co-operation.
Following this successful venture, on Tuesday 28 June the SPYS will be organising the “SPYS Up Summer Music Fest”, a concert, arranged in collaboration with the Tas-Sliema Local Council at which a number of youth bands from the city will be playing.
The purpose of this is also to raise funds for the projects in which the volunteers are going to be involved. Support can also be given by sending sms.
Similar activities in the past have led to the building of computer laboratories and a night shelter, to improve the quality of the services for children in the projects.
