Spain – “Technical Days” for Puertollano |
The recognition “Somos Comenius” is granted to those engaged in the development of Ongoing Learning Programmes through Comenius activities devoted to trans-national teamwork and exchanges by students and non-university teachers. The Salesian centre in Puertollano is one of 50 such centres in the region currently developing a European programme.
The specific programme in which the ‘San Juan Bosco’ Intitute of Puertollano is involved is entitled ‘Use of film and animation to enhance teaching and learning in Europe’, and it aims to help students both to improve their knowledge of English and to learn how to make use of new technologies so as to have a better understanding of the various European countries they are in contact with.
The project sets out to link together all the participating students through internet and videoconferences. Each school or group of schools is asked to produce a short video on their own activities and then to share this with the other students through the net, thus stimulating an exchange of cultural models and customs of each country.
In this way it is hoped that the European dimension of teaching at all levels will be strengthened, thus facilitating a much greater transnational access to educational resources across the continent, and at the same time promoting equal opportunities in all areas of education. Yolanda Mora, a teacher at the Salesian Institute, recently took part in a gathering at Fagersta (Sweden), and two other teachers, Antonio Rodríguez and Javier Calatrava, will shortly have a similar experience in Trzebinia (Poland).
The second round of the Comensius European programme, in which the Puertollano institute is involved, will be completed in June 2012. The Comenius Programme is named after Jan Amos Comenius (1592-1670), often considered the father of modern education.
