Fr Mauro Maria Morfino was born in Arborea, near Oristano, on 23 March 1958. He made his novitiate at Lanuvio in 1975 and made his perpetual profession on 25 September 1983. Having completed teacher training studies and obtaining a music degree at the Cagliari Conservatory, he was ordained priest on 19 July 1986.
He obtained a qualification in philosophy at the Pontifical Faculty of Sardinia; between 1982 and 1992 he also completed academic studies in the Middle East, obtaining a first degree in Sacred Theology (1986) in Jerusalem, then a Licence in Biblical Studies (1988) and finally a Doctorate in Biblical Research there (1992).
Among his various occupations Fr Morfino has been a collaborator with the Pontifical Presence in Jerusalem, Spiritual Director of the Pontifical Sardinian Regional Seminary and Vice-Principal of the Pontifical Faculty of Theology in Cagliari. Since 1992 he has been teaching Sacred Scripture there in the Faculty of Theology. In 2008 he took part in the 26th General Chapter of the Salesians as Delegate for the Salesian Vice Province of Sardinia.
For almost twenty years a member of the Salesian community in Cagliari, he is the author of a number of biblical studies and has also conducted a number of retreats and courses on scripture.
