(ANS – Madrid) – “I am a volunteer for you” is the motto for a voluntary service welcoming campaign launched by the Salesian Youth Movement in Spain in preparation for the 2011 World Youth Day. The Salesian houses in Madrid and the surrounding area  expect to welcome about 7000 young people, providing them with accommodation, food and material and spiritual assistance.

According to the latest estimates  over 7.000 members of the Salesian Youth Movement (SYM) from various parts of  the world will attend the WYD to beheld in Madrid between 15 and 21 August 2011. They will be put up in various centres of the Salesians and the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians.

Since the first announcement of the WYD  the Salesian Family has offered to help with the organising and coordinating of the young people coming from Salesian centres. So far there are 17 centres involved– including parish houses, schools and youth centres of the Salesians and the FMA – in preparing to welcome the young people and the religious communities concerned are already busy getting ready everything necessary.

To ensure that the young people are assisted a campaign has been launched for volunteers among the  Salesian Family with the motto– “I am a volunteer for you” –I Help will be needed with things such as preparing and distributing breakfast as well as welcoming and providing an information service for the young people, cleaning up and providing pastoral guidance at the times for prayer and catechesis, as well as the more specialised services of first-aid and nursing care and translation.

Help is also being asked for from families living near the Salesian centres to provide accommodation for some of the young people coming from various countries to take part in the meeting with Pope Benedict XVI.

The campaign is being aimed at teachers from Salesian schools, parish ministers, members of the Salesian Youth Movement and other members of groups of the Salesian Family in Spain.
