(ANS – Santo Domingo) – At the end of the month of October the Salesian Project Development Offices in Latin America were brought together by the Salesian-inspired NGO DMOS-COMIDE to compare their varied experiences and to encourage them to operate in net-work.

The Santo Domingo meeting was part of the programme of “continental” meetings for the Salesian Project Development Offices  through which the Belgian NGO DMOS-COMIDE, founding member with  other NGO of the Don Bosco Network (DBN), intends to give support to the sustainability of Salesian projects in mission lands.

Coordinated by Françoise Léonard, Director of COMIDE and President of the DBN, the meeting which took place between 25 and 29 October was an opportunity to share good practice and to lay the foundations for the setting up of  structures which, while reflecting the Salesian charism and the local socio-cultural context, can respond to the needs of the  new form of Salesian Missionary Solidarity in the world.

During the five days the Latin American Salesian Development Offices examined their role and the results of the initiatives undertaken in recent years, from the points of view of “quality management” and of their sustainability.

The first result was the general  agreement about the need for them to operate in net-work, and in this way to begin a process  of integration leading to a close and trusting collaboration between lay people and religious. Through its Director Milly Grillone, the Don Bosco Network proposed and offered to the SPDO the possibility of making use of its own virtual platform to exchange information, documents, projects and contacts

These continental meetings take place every 2 years and bring together all the SPDO of the respective areas; for Latin America in the Dominican Republic in October; for Africa in Kenya during December; for Asia in India in May.

During this meeting in Santo Domingo an attempt was begun to put all the SPDO in the world in their place on the map a very useful procedure in view of the world meeting of  SPDO scheduled for 2011 in Hyderabad, India.
