118 young people from all the countries in the Interamerica Region, including leaders of the Movement, Provincial Delegates met to assess the progress made by the SYM with regard to its identity, formation and organisation. Some areas were also identified in which the Movement still needed to develop, such as accompaniment a social and ecclesial commitment.
Starting from the weaker points identified, some specific commitments were made: collaboration between the youth leaders and the Provincial Delegates so as to strengthen the formation procedures and encourage better accompaniment and vocational discernment; opening up to the social and ecclesial dimension. To these were also added the creation of new groups; the formation of the young starting from Church and Salesian teaching; working in synergy with the Salesian Family; identifying the Regional guide-lines in the promotion of formation and the accompaniment of the young in each Province.
To strengthen the animation of the Movement it was suggested that there be a central Regional organisation group made up of 3 animators, 3 young representatives of the three areas of the Region – Andes, Central America and the Caribbean, North America – a Delegate of the Region and a representative of the Department.
In preparation for the Continental Meeting being planned for 2015, and for the celebration of the bicentenary of the birth of Don Bosco it was decided to assess the formation process and the commitments made in each Province and in each area.
The final Mass and the Salesian celebration provided opportunities for the various cultures represented to come together. Fr Attard thanked those present for the serious work undertaken, the reflections of the individual groups, the community sharing, the fraternal and family spirit which was a feature of the whole meeting.
