Uruguay – Salesian Youth Ministry Course |
Every four years the Salesian Youth Movement in Uruguay holds a meeting for all the youngsters over 16 years of age from all the houses in Uruguay, – both those of the Salesians and those of the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians (FMA) – in a lively atmosphere with times of prayer and formation. This time some young people from Paraguay and the North Argentina Province also took part in a total of a 1200 young people, accompanied by Salesians, FMA and lay people.
From beginning to end the motto “We want to see Jesus” was a feature of all the events. These included the notice boards, the 22 work-shops, the games, moments of reflection, adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, the artistic festival, the shared chores and especially at the Mass celebrated outside the Cathedral, in all of which the same message was heard.
The young people all spoke highly of the great atmosphere of Salesian joy and celebration they had experienced and the chance to meet and exchange ideas and experiences with other young people like themselves from their own and the neighbouring countries, and especially to meet Jesus at a really deep level. They were also impressed by the quality of the training sessions and the generosity shown by the centres which had done all the work preparing the themes and the skills of those who through their efforts had made the whole event possible.
Following the VI SYM Camp the young people took up the challenge: “We cannot fail to proclaim what we have seen and heard.” “From now on we will fix our eyes on Jesus and help others to know him,” one of the organisers insisted.
