Austria – “Fullness of Life” in Mariazell |
Classes, lots of games, a know Don Bosco Quiz and a trip to the zoo at Schönbrunn, were the main camp activities. The migrant camp was run by the Australian Salesians Austria at Don Bosco Haus, Vienna. The aim was to bring together and help integrate the refugee children who, for various reasons, are far from home.
The core idea inspiring the event was an understanding of Don Bosco, whom the youngsters called “a Saint who knew how to do things, a smart guy”. The camp song, “Evviva Don Bosco” (Long Live Don Bosco), was written by the Provincial in Austria, Fr Rudolf Osanger.
At the end of the five days there was a feast which involved families as well. The children had a chance to perform and show off the skills they had gained: juggling, acrobatics, singing.
This initiative of integration was made possible thanks to the support of the Vienna City Council, sponsors and benefactors, and to the ready availability of leaders who gave up their time for the young refugees.
