(ANS – Buenos Aires) – The feast of Our Lady of Luján, the Patroness of Argentina, was celebrated on Saturday 8 May with a pilgrimage. Taking part in the event which opened the celebrations of the Bi-centenary of the Country with the motto “With Mary we are building a country for everyone” was also the Salesian Youth Movement (SYM) of Buenos Aires, present in large numbers especially from the Salesian parish of St John the Evangelist. At the suggestion of the Church in Argentina a candle was lit and an Our Father and a Hail Mary were said for the good of the country.

The celebration began at the parish of Our Lady of Luján, where the various groups gathered together before setting off on the pilgrimage to the “San Martín” Station in the centre of the  city. During the procession the young  people joyfully sang and danced. The SYM, accompanied by several Salesians, carried a large banner made by the members of the various groups.

When they  arrived at “San Martín” Station Mass was said. The whole occasion was marked by light, as each pilgrim carried a candle and prayed for Argentina. At Mass Archbishop Alfonso Delgado Evers of San Juan de Cuyo presided and a number of priests from the diocese concelebrated. A large rosary made of balloons was released and rose to the sky symbolising their prayers and intentions.
