About 400 young people took part this year. They were led by 20 Salesians who were also responsible for the catechesis and the celebrations in the various Indian communities in the States of Oaxaca, Veracruz and San Luis Potosí. During Holy Week the Salesians were also able to reach some of the communities near their own houses where usually there is no priest or catechist.
Also during the year the young people organised into “Salesian Missionary Groups” (GRUMIS) had prepared the various activities from the logistical and training points of view spending as much time as necessary in order to provide a suitable service of catechesis, liturgy and leadership among the children and youngsters.
As part of the 19 GRUMIS, located in 16 different cities were also some parents, catechists and teachers.
Most of the young people were involved in the mission with the Indian or peasant communities near the parish of San Antonio de las Palmas (Oaxaca), a part of the Mixes Prelature, in other communities in the same Prelature or in neighbouring parishes, on the boundaries between the Mixes Prelature, the diocese of Tuxtepec (Oaxaca) and that of San Andrés Tuxtla (Veracruz).
The great sacrifices, also financial, made by the young people of the GRUMIS should be mentioned. To arrive at their missionary destination some had to travel long distances: for example, the distance between the Guadalajara and the parish of San Antonio de las Palmas is 1050 kilometres.
This year some “local missions” were held at Chihuahua, Ciudad Juárez, Los Mochis, Saltillo and Zamora . These are missionary experiences undertaken by GRUMIS in their own area.
