Solomon Islands – A Voice at the service of the local churches |
It was held in preparation for the 5th Anniversary of Radio BOSCO FM 89.9 the community radio station. There were various sessions which highlighted types of Media and script writing. In the course of the enjoyable sessions the participants had the opportunity to record advertisements and short programmes on Education, Environment, Equality and Elections. These will be broadcast on Radio BOSCO FM 890.9.
The Course was organized by Fr. Ambrose Pereira SDB Rector of Honiara and conducted by Joe Vidiki, Gwen Toki, John Toki and Emilie Daihou. The students were accompanied by teachers – Ms Anna Manekiki, Ms Maria Kuri, Ms Aya and Mr Paul Rava.
The students and staff enjoyed the experience: “Understanding that the media is necessary as it gives us the possibility to share our ideas and thoughts to many others, is a wonderful thing,’ said Jimmy Bosamana one of the students, and Ms Maria Kuri, Life skills instructor added ‘It is a challenge for teachers to learn new ways of communicating with others.’
The importance of Social Communication is greatly appreciated in the Provincial Delegation of the Solomon Islands. The Seminar was part of the wider programme concerned with helping the young people to use the media in a responsible manner.
