Ecuador – Publishers’ Meeting |
The Social Communication Department, in line with the objectives of the Project of animation and government of the Rector Major and his Council, is organising a series of continental meetings of Salesian Publishing Houses. The first held between 4 and 7 February at the Salesian house of Marti-Codolar in was attended by representatives of 19 of the 20 Salesian Publishing Houses in Europe.
The aim is to get to know the extent of the Salesian presence in this area, the creation of an ever more efficient synergy and the strengthening of the identity and mission in the field of education, ministry and culture.
Leading and coordinating the meeting were Fr Filiberto González Plasencia, Councillor for Social Communication and Fr Julian Fox, a member of the Department.
In the course of the meeting the contribution that could be made by Salesian Publishing Houses large and small from Portugal to Russia in the Project for Europe and in the re-discovery of the undoubted Christian roots of the old continent was recalled and recognised.
Another item on the agenda was the revision of the articles in the “Salesian Social Communication System” (SSCS) with regard to the area of production, with particular reference to publishers
Among the conclusions reached was the identification of a more restricted working group to meet shortly and to present suggestions regarding a more coordinated synergy and more effective activity.
The Department would ensure the constant exchange of information and a network of contacts with each publishing house.
Before the meeting a questionnaire had been distributed and soon an uptodate outline of all the Salesian Publishing Houses in the world would be available. In the following months other similar continental meetings of Salesian Publishing Houses would be held.
