Mexico – 25 years working with the young |
Kenya – Congress for Volunteers in Africa |
Before the meeting started the Volunteers had already carried out an exercise in self-evaluation covering the previous months of their service. The results were then the starting point for the reflections and work during the following days.
In those three days the Volunteers visited the 6 Salesian oratories in Tijuana and the “Padre Chava” food kitchen which 4 times a week provides a meal for about 700 poor people. In the “Monte Tabor” House of Prayer in the hills above Tecate, there was a day of recollection in which some former volunteers described to the young people their own past experiences.
The last day was spent studying and reflecting on human formation and in drawing up a Personal Plan of Life. They also put together some useful guidelines which could be used in group work in the educative-pastoral and leadership areas.
The meeting was judged very positively by the Volunteers as it gave an opportunity for a break to reflect on their experiences so far and also to get to know each other.
This year the Volunteers in the Mexico-Guadalajara Province are involved mainly in Ciudad Juárez, Los Mochis, Nuevo Laredo and Tijuana.
