The day which began with Mass at the altar of the cathedra in St Peter’s Basilica with the Rector Major presiding, saw several thousand athletes taking part in the 10.5 km competitive event and then youngsters and adults in a 3 km run through the streets of the city.
The event was promoted by the Don Bosco in the World Foundation with the collaboration of Italian CNOS-Sport and organised by the “Saints’ Run” Sports Association.
“The Saints ‘Run” also launched the “Free a child soldier” campaign which the Don Bosco in the World Foundation is organising to collect funds on behalf of the Salesians working in Sri Lanka. Between 1 and 8 November people in Italy can contribute by sending a 2 euro text message, or else, from any part of the world, by accessing the site it is possible to make a donation by following the various indications.
The first three in the men’s competitive race were Meli Ezekiel, Rugut Kipngetich Nahash and Jaouad Zain, while in the women’s race the first three were: Ghizlane Asmae, Di Santo Ilaria, Salina Jebet.
The second to arrive in the short run was Nicola Martino, a youngster from the Salesian oratory in Foggia.
