Published for the present only in French, the work in 502 pages covers the various phases of the life of Fr Rua, from the first years lived with Don Bosco at the Oratory, among the first Salesians and until he becomes his Vicar and then his first successor, and then in the second part of the book, as the protagonist of the flourishing and the developing of the - at the time - young Salesian Congregation.
“The centenary of his death (Fr Rua) in 2010 helps us to remember the life of the immediate successor of Don Bosco to whom the Salesian Family owes so much. What would it (the Salesian Congregation) have become were it not for Fr Rua?” the author writes in the introduction to the book where he describes the motivations and the aims of this biography.
This work is now added to the long list of those written by this French Salesian, now 86 years of age. Among the more significant ones we may mention: “Don Bosco et la vie spirituelle” (1967), “Don-Bosco à Nice, la vie d’une école professionnelle catholique entre 1875 et 1919” (1980) e “Don Bosco en son temps” (1996).
Shortly the biography of Fr Rua will be available in Italian, also published by the LAS.
