Belgium – Young people visit the European Parliament |
Taking part in the meeting were the Provincials of Hungary, Fr Albert Van Hecke, of Slovakia, Fr Karol Maník, and of the Czech Republic Fr František Blaha. Making their special contribution to the study of this topic were also Fr Meinolf Von Spee, in charge of “Don Bosco International”, Fr Jiri Svoboda, a Salesian originally from the Czech Republic now working in Bulgaria, Fr Simon Manjooran and Lytton Quadro a young Salesian.
The agenda for the meeting included the presentation of the various educational and pastoral initiatives already in progress on behalf of the Gypsy community by the three Central European Provinces.
In the course of the meeting, Fr Van Hecke emphasised the importance of sharing experiences and future projects so as to strengthen and give courage to all the confreres involved in this apostolic work, which he saw as “a area which needs an urgent and significant input.”
In November this year in Kosice, Slovakia, there will be a Salesian Seminar on pastoral work among the Gypsies.
