Don Chávez and Governor Mereira officially opened the new work, which came about thanks to the involvement of local government, businesses and benefactors, and the Salesian Congregation. There is space for up to 900 students in its classrooms.
The opening was attended by the various contractors involved in the project and other local leaders including the mayor of Saltillo, Fernando de Las Fuentes, Don Filiberto González, Salesian Provincial of Mexico-Guadalajara (MEG), and Don Alfredo Rocha, Rector of the Salesian Community in Saltillo.
In his speech, Prof. Moreira recognised the commitment of the Salesian Congregation to education and training, ‘trying to build a better society, with persons better prepared for spiritual and working life.’ Don Chávez replied, giving thanks for the donation of the land on which the Institute had sprung up.
The new technical school seeks to respond to the requirements of needy young people in the town by providing high quality training courses, and is very much appreciated in a region known for its industrial activity.
In his speech, Sig. Ernesto López de Nigris, chair of the INTEC Trust, stressed that the way to build a better society was through ‘citizens with a better education and preparation for work, a task in which the Congregation of Don Bosco plays a fundamental role.’
