(ANS - Rome) – Next Sunday, January 17th, is the 102nd World Day of Migrants and Refugees. It is an opportunity to remembrer the dramatic situation of so many men and women forced to leave their own lands and to propose, in keeping with the indications given by the Pope, an answer inspired to mercy.
"Migrants are our brothers and sisters in search of a better life, far away from poverty, hunger, exploitation and the unjust distribution of the planet’s resources which are meant to be equitably shared by all. Don’t we all want a better, more decent and prosperous life to share with our loved ones?" underscored the Holy Father in the Message he delivered for the occasion, last October.
In view of the celebration of this World Day next Sunday, the Association Missioni Don Bosco of Turin launches one again the "StopTratta" (Stop Trafficking) Campaign promoted together with International Volunteer Service for Development (VIS), with the aim of intervening in the communities of departure of migrants, availing themselves of the collaboration with the Salesian realities present in those territories.
The association proposes once more the story book "L’orizzonte alle spalle" (The Horizon behind My Shoulders) in which the main characters are the very same persons whom voluntary and social workers personally met in Italy, in Sicily, a few days after their terrible journey in the desert and then through the Mediterranean.
“We listened to them and then we decided to recount theirs stories in a storytelling language, so that grownups and children may understand the difficulties in abandoning one's own land and facing a journey as the one of crossing the desert and the sea", explain those responsible for the initiative.
On the site of the Association it is possible to find more information on the StopTratta Campaign and to request the book, "L’orizzonte alle spalle", which is available in Italian.
