(ANS - Dakar) - The technical team of the Real Madrid Foundation recently made a trip to Senegal to give a training course with the motto "they play, we educate.”  The course was given in the "Don Bosco Kër" Centre in Dakar and involved 16 coaches and educators of socio-sports schools of the Foundation, in Dakar, Thies and Tambacounda, who are for the most part involved in education, professional training and physical education.

The socio-sports schools in Dakar and Thies started their activities in 2012, and the one at Tambacounda in 2010. The overall objective of the schools is to provide students (aged between 5 and 17) with organized sport that promotes the positive values of sport. All projects are located in Salesian vocational training centres and can rely on other social and educational activities that complement sport.

The school of Dakar is located in the Nord Foire neighbourhood, one of the most depressed areas of the city. It has 140 students, who, in addition to sports, benefit from remedial lessons for school work, an annual medical examination and weekly food assistance.

The school at Thiès is part of the overall Salesian educational programme. It is located 60 km from Dakar and is part of a complex that also consists of a vocational training centre and a youth centre. The complex is located in the district of Medina Fall, north of the city, in an area that is very weak from a social, economic and educational aspect and where there is a Muslim majority. Besides sports, the pupils receive computer classes and remedial classes during the summer. They also participate in meetings and seminars on topics such as health and the values of sport.

The school of Tambacounda, 400 kilometres from Dakar, is also part of a Salesian training centre. There are over a hundred pupils from rural areas and vulnerable family environments.  Besides sports education, they also receive remedial lessons, an annual medical examination and an opportunity to participate in workshops on health and hygiene.
