(ANS – Los Angeles) – Actor Michael Peña, Director Joe Kelly Collaborate for LA Salesian Club. Peña is putting his fame to good use with actor and director Joe Kelly in the PSA “You Are My Sunshine.”
Actor Michael Peña has starred alongside Brad Pitt in “Fury” and partnered with Jake Gyllenhaal as cops patrolling South Central L.A. in “End of Watch.” He also appeared in “Crash” and the epic 9/11 film “World Trade Center.”
His recent role in “Ant-Man” won him critical acclaim, starring as Luis, Peña delivers a scene-stealing performance playing Ant-Man’s side kick with a positive attitude on just about anything. It’s no surprise that in real life, he’s helping the Los Angeles Salesian Boys & Girls Club. Peña is putting his fame to good use with actor and director Joe Kelly in the PSA “You Are My Sunshine.”
Directed by Joe Kelly and narrated by Peña, “You are My Sunshine” tells the story of a young girl’s journey to a very special place in East Los Angeles, Boyle Heights, where Hispanic children from less fortunate circumstances are given a beacon of hope and a safe place to dream, learn and become successful educated adults, the Salesian Boys & Girls Club.
Since 1966, the Salesian Boys & Girls Club of Los Angeles – located within walking distance of more than 13,000 elementary, middle and high school students – has served the Boyle Heights and City Terrace communities by providing positive after-school activities and low-cost alternative programs for thousands of at-risk and economically disadvantaged youth between the ages of 6 and 18.
The video “You are My Sunshine” is available on YouTube. On the site of the Salesian Boys & Girls Club there is another short film in which Michael Peña speaks of his connection with the Salesian Centre.
It’s also a special charity that is supported by A-listers celebrities, who have posted the PSA: among the others, the actors Mark Wahlberg and Andie MacDowell, the Director and Producer Michael Bay and the Producer Jerry Bruckheimer.
