(ANS - Rome) - On Saturday 10 October the Grand Chancellor of the Salesian Pontifical University, Fr Ángel Fernández Artime, signed the decree of appointment of Professor Francesco Casella, SDB, Professor of History of Education and Pedagogy, as Vice-Rector of the UPS for the three years from 2015 to 2018.

For the next three years Professor Casella will be the closest collaborator of the Rector Magnificus, Professor Mauro Mantovani, SDB, also newly appointed, in leading the Salesian University and the entire academic community.

Professor Casella was born in Anzi (PZ) on 18 November 1947. He has been a perpetually professed member of the Congregation of the Salesians of Don Bosco since 1971. He was ordained to the priesthood in Naples in 1976. He holds a degree in literature from the Federico II University of Naples. He holds a teaching diploma and was a member of the Professional Association of Teachers. In his province of origin, the Southern Province, he was, at different times, Rector in the Salesian House of Caserta, Rector and Principal of the Salesian Institute in Soverato and Principal of the Salesian High School in Taranto.

In 1995 he was called to work at the Salesian Historical Institute in the Generalate in Rome, where he remained until 2001, when he moved to the UPS as lecturer in the Faculty of Education (FSE). Professor Casella had already begun his collaboration with the FSE during his years at the Generalate.

As Professor of the History of Education and Pedagogy he teaches, among other things History of the School, Contemporary History, and Methodology of Scientific Work. These courses are offered to the students of Communication Sciences and Social Philosophy as well as students of the FSE.

From 2009 to 2012 he was dean of the FSE.
