(ANS - Madrid) - The response of the Salesian communities in Spain to the refugee crisis in Europe is become more and more concrete and practical. Fr Juan Carlos Pérez Godoy, Superior of the St James the Greater Province, spoke in a press release about the readiness of the various houses in the Province to welcome refugees and care for them in Salesian centres.

In a statement made to the communities of the Province after the last meeting of the Provincial Council, Fr Perez Godoy emphasized the sensitivity shown by the Salesian Houses in the face of this emergency. For the response to be effective, the community is asked to collaborate with government and Church agencies in responding to the crisis.

The Provincial refers to concrete actions, such as the availability that some Salesian works have already shown to the families of refugees; the work coordinated by the Salesian Social Platforms with other institutions to implement "projects to welcome immigrants, to help them find employment and to care for minors". He also mentioned the possibility that the schools might welcome children and young people in need.

The statement concludes with a call for solidarity addressed to all the members of the Salesian Family, the young people in Salesian centres and all the lay people who share the Salesian mission.
