(ANS - Cap-Haitien) - On Saturday 30 May the Salesian community of Fondation Vincent in Cap-Haitien, welcomed the Minister for Youth, Sports and Civic Action, Hon. Jimmy Albert, accompanied by a large delegation from the Ministry. The reason for the visit was the launch of the Youth Fair programme of activities and workshops to help young people to make good use of their time, especially on weekends. The programme will include courses on new information and communications technology, as well as dance and drama.
The Salesian community warmly welcomed the delegation. In his address of welcome Fr Jean Lesly Hostin SDB made it clear to the participants that the visit of the delegation is not a mere coincidence, but "a providential fact. In fact, it is Don Bosco himself who brought you here to his house."
Then he recalled how the Salesian Congregation is engaged around the world in celebrating the bicentenary of the birth of Don Bosco, known as Father and Teacher of Youth. He used to say that nothing good can be achieved for the benefit of young people, without some people who will spend their entire lives in the service of young people.
As a symbolic gesture, Fr Hostin gave the Minister a painting of St. John Bosco, which he held during the whole time of the opening prayer.
Fr Hostin then recalled how young people are the specific field of action of the Salesians, who "strive for holiness through their work for youth". He recalled the aim of Don Bosco’s pedagogy: "to form good Christians and honest citizens", through reason, religion and loving kindness.
Then, in conclusion, he said: "You are here with the Salesians of Don Bosco ... so, you are at home."
