Italy – Bicentenary of Don Bosco: several projects begin |
(ANS - Mathi) - Tomorrow, Saturday 30 May, the Rector Major, Fr Ángel Fernández Artime, will travel to two towns which were also visited by Don Bosco - Mathi and Nole in the Turin province. This event during the bicentenary of his birth is being organized by the municipalities and parishes of the two towns, along with the Salesians in Piedmont, to recall the many trips that Don Bosco made on the Turin-Lanzo railway line. Don Bosco was present when it was opened in 1876.
The event is scheduled to begin in the early afternoon at the Dora station in Turin. The Rector Major, accompanied by his secretary, Fr Horacio López, and by young people, authorities and friends of Don Bosco will travel on a historic train made available by the "Gruppo Torinese Trasporti" with stops at the stations of Venaria Reale and Cirie to greet the local people.
The train will then reach Mathi where the celebrations will continue with the presentation of honorary citizenship to the Rector Major. The authorities will visit Ahlstrom-Munksjo, formerly a Salesian paper factory, bought by Don Bosco himself in 1877 to supply paper for the Salesian printing press. Don Bosco’s room is still preserved.
The day will continue at Nole with a visit to the house of Don Bosco’s doctor, followed by Mass in the parish church of San Vincenzo at which the Rector Major will preside.
In the evening the young people of the Don Bosco Oratory in Rivoli will perform the musical "Don Bosco, a worker of God" at the "NoleForum."
