Peru – Mass of the Rector Major with the Salesian Family |
Peru – Fr Á.F. Artime: "We will leave a little bit of our hearts here" |
(ANS - Magdalena del Mar) – On the second day of his visit to Peru, Fr Ángel Fernández Artime met with the Provincial Council in the morning, followed by a fraternal meeting with the Salesians of Peru in the Formation House at Magdalena del Mar. In the afternoon he visited the restored Basilica of Mary Help of Christians and the St. Francis de Sales Institute. In the evening he celebrated mass in the temple of Rimac, where he praised the climate of simplicity that he meets everywhere he goes.
During the visit to Magdalena del Mar, Fr Á.F. Artime was accompanied by the Provincial, Fr Santo Dal Ben, and by Salesians of the various communities in the country. The Rector Major thanked all those present and emphasized the sense of joy and community he had found since his arrival in Peru. Subsequently there was an assembly to help him to get to know the confreres and give them the chance to know him better, but especially to strengthen collaboration and communion among all the members of the Salesian Family.
Visiting the facilities of the St Francis de Sales Institute, he inaugurated the "time line" developed in the college, a record that shows the most important events in the life of Don Bosco, and of the Salesian Congregation in Peru.
The complete record of the visit to Magdalena del Mar is available on the website of the Salesians in Peru.
In the evening the Rector Major celebrated mass in the temple at Rimac. The Provincial and many Salesians concelebrated. The Mass was attended by the National Council of the Damas Salesianas, the Community of the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians from Barrios Altos, friends of Don Bosco, laity from various groups, and members of the Salesian Family. "If there is a place where we can meet as a Salesian Family, it must be a place where simplicity reigns,” said Fr Á.F. Artime in his homily. Later he received an award from the Mayor of Rimac.
The complete chronicle of the events of Rimac is available on the website.
