(ANS – Rome) – On Friday and Saturday next, 17–18 April, young religious in formation of the Salesians and the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians will meet at the Salesian Pontifical University for two days of study and reflection on the theme of the 49th World Day of Social Communications.  This year the theme is "Communicating the Family: A Privileged Place of Encounter with the Gift of Love."

The purpose of the exercise is to provide an opportunity for meeting and formation for young SDB and FMA religious; to promote education in Social Communication in the early stages of formation, in collaboration with the FMA Sector and the SDB Department for Formation; to accustom the young religious in initial formation, along with their formators, to an awareness of self-formation and the importance of Social Communication in the mission.

Among the new initiatives of this fourth course will be the parallel sessions for reflection and the fact that one of the sessions will be devoted exclusively to the formation personnel. It will be led by the General Councillors present – the Councillors for Social Communication, Fr Filiberto Gonzalez and Sr Maria Helena Moreira; and the Councillors for Formation, Fr Ivo Coelho and Sr Maria Nieves Reboso.

On Friday afternoon there will be a panel discussion moderated by Fr Donato Lacedonio, an expert with the research institute Censis. It will include the story of the life of a family.

This will be followed by the first of the parallel sessions of reflection, where some experts will address different aspects of communication in the family (in the home, family ministry, difficult situations, religious communities) from different points of view (in the light of the Synod on the Family and from the point of view of Consecrated Life).

The second day will begin with a further session of workshops on how to communicate with the family through various media and channels of expression (cinema, television, Internet, advertising, family story telling, the language of gestures) and other issues related to family and communication (communicating the faith in the family, dialogue in the family).

The Eucharist will take place in mid-morning.  In the afternoon there will be sharing on what has been heard over the two days and then the final farewell from Fr Gonzalez, Sr. Moreira and Fr Mauro Mantovani, Dean of the Faculty of Social Communication at the UPS.

The panel discussion and the parallel sessions on Friday afternoon will be available on live streaming, as well as the sharing and the final conclusions of Saturday afternoon.
