(ANS - Vatican City) - Yesterday, 19 January, the Pope appointed the Salesian Bishop Mario Toso, as new bishop of the Diocese of Faenza-Modigliana. Until now he has been titular bishop of Bisarcio and secretary of the Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace.
Bishop Mario Toso, born at Mogliano Veneto (Treviso), on 2 July 1950, took his vows in the Salesian Congregation on 16 August 1967. After philosophical and theological studies at the Faculty of Theology in Turin, where he obtained a Baccalaureate in Theology, he was ordained priest on 22 July 1978.
The author of several publications he obtained a degree in Philosophy at the Sacred Heart Catholic University in Milan (1978); a Licence in Philosophy at the Salesian Pontifical University (1981); a Licence in Theology at the Pontifical Lateran University (1982).
During the six years 2003 – 2009 he had been Rector Magnificus of the Salesian Pontifical University in Rome (UPS). In the same University he was: lecturer in Philosophy, held the chair of Theoretical Philosophy and between 1994 and 2000, Dean of the Faculty of Philosophy.
On 22 October 2009 he was appointed Secretary of the Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace and made titular Bishop of Bisarcio. He received episcopal consecration on 12 December of that year.
