(ANS - Rome) - The annual Assembly of the Conference of Salesian Provinces of Italy (CISI) is going on at present (7-8 January) at the Salesian Generalate in Rome. After the Assembly other meetings will take place until Sunday 11 January, to study, reflect and discuss the guidelines that emerge.
The superiors of the Italian provinces normally gather four times a year, but many others are involved in the CISI Assembly, such as the offices of the National Centre and the Provincial Delegates for Youth Ministry. Despite its name, the Conference also includes the Province of the Middle East.
Several topics are being addressed during these two days of work, with a focus on planning for the next few years. These include:
Fr Stefano Martoglio, formerly Provincial of Piedmont and Valle d'Aosta and now Councillor for the Mediterranean Region, is presiding at the Assembly.
In the coming days, there will be other meetings for the Superiors of the Provinces of CISI. On Friday, 9 January, they will meet with the Provincial Economers to share practices and operational decisions. In the afternoon of 10 January they will meet the Italian Interprovincial Conference which is the corresponding group of the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians.
According to Fr Claudio Belfiore, Secretary of CISI, "These are days of intense and often difficult work, because we are facing an increasingly complex and challenging situation. But we do so with joy and serenity. There is always pleasure in discovering and sharing the joys and efforts, the desire to travel bits of the road together, and why not, perhaps even to invent new ways. We hope to play our part as sons of that holy dreamer, especially this year as we celebrate the two hundredth anniversary of his birth."
