(ANS - Pamplona)- On 16 November, Trofeo Boscos, currently the largest non-state tournament in Spain, received the Medal of the Diocesan Church of Pamplona. The Medal was awarded in recognition of the work that Trofeo Bosco has been doing for fifty-eight years in Pamplona and neighbourhood, in transmitting the values of encounter, friendship and entertainment through sport.
The ceremony took place in the Cathedral of Pamplona. Representatives of the Trofeo Boscos included its current President Antonio Iturrald and some of his predecessors, including the founder, Juan José Armendariz. There were also some past pupils of Don Bosco, Pamplona and members of the Salesian Family.
Fr Josean Hernández, Provincial Delegate for the Salesian Family, and Fr Iñaki Lete, Rector of the community of Pamplona, concelebrated the Mass at which Archbishop Francisco Pérez of the diocese of Pamplona and Tudela prsided.
Trofeo Boscos has always been linked to the Association of Past Pupils of Don Bosco, Pamplona. It is currently the largest non-state tournament in Spain. It caters every weekend for over 3,000 people aged between eighteen and sixty, with 120 teams involved in different venues in the city and surrounding areas.
The Medal of the Diocesan Church is a recognition that was introduced three years ago. In its first year it was awared to the Food Bank and last year to Professor Luis Gallego Ropero, a teacher at the Public University of Navarra. The medal was intended as a way of recognizing the work of people or institutions who show commitment and dedication in promoting Gospel values in society.
