(ANS – Monrovia) – "Ebola is a treacherous enemy because it is invisible. It is a ruthlessly efficient fighter, a terrorist that attacks according to the classic doctrine of guerrilla warfare, undermining its victims’ psychological balance even before it strikes physically." So wrote the Italian journalist Sergio Ramazzotti, in a long article with the title, "Death comes in front of my eyes”. While he was writing the article for the magazine Vanity Fair, he availed of the hospitality and assistance of the Salesian communities in Monrovia.
Sergio Ramazzotti was born in Milan. He is a writer and photographer, and the author of hundreds of reports that have appeared in major newspapers worldwide. He has starred in several documentaries including "Good Morning Afghanistan", and is co-founder of "Parallelozero." In an e-mail sent to the ANS Agency he writes: "I came home yesterday. I am writing after meeting the wonderful people who run your two foundations at Sinkor and Matadi in Monrovia, especially Fr Nicola Ciarapica and Fr Sony Pottenplackal. I enjoyed the hospitality of Fr Sony at the Technical College. I simply want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for putting me in touch with them, and to express to you the great admiration and deep respect that I have for them, for their courage, tenacity and willingness to remain in the forefront during this terrible disaster."
With the permission of the author we have included some excerpts of his report in the Service section.
