(ANS – Nairobi) – From 14 to 19 July 2014, forty-five Salesians and Lay collaborators from the PDOs of twelve provinces, Vice-Provinces and Circumscriptions in Africa/Madagascar, and from the Dominican Republic and Haiti, as well as representatives from Don Bosco Mondo Germany, Via Don Bosco Belgium and VIS, gathered at DBYES for a four- day international meeting.
Fr. Americo Chaquisse, Regional Councillor for Africa/Madagascar, Fr. Gianni Rolandi, Provincial AFE, Fr. Fabio Attard (General Councillor for Youth Ministry) and Fr. Guilermo Basanes (General Councillor for Missions) were present for this important meeting.
The discussions outlined the importance of understanding the Salesian Vocational Education and Training systems in Africa and the importance of developing effective Vocational Education and Training strategies in the plan of the PDOs.
These were the final conclusions:
Bosco Tech Africa

To set up collaborative structures between BTA and the PDOs.

PDO to help the BTA with the capacity building of the staff.

To develop a common programme of pedagogy, training, administration and staff targeting for TVET.

To set up and develop TVET training centres.

To develop tools for continuous training of TVET staff.

A structure was drawn up for BTA.

To share a common success story at the end.
PDO
-
To help PDOs put in place tools and methods to help them manage the offices.

To build the capacities of PDO staff so that they could do their work professionally.

To help the PDO offices to come up with a strategic plan for their work.

To train the PDOs in how to conduct the needs assessment in the communities.

To work together and support partnership in planning.

Three regions of PDOs were created and three regional coordinators/managers were appointed. The regions are as follows:

East Africa and South of Africa

West Africa, Haiti and the Caribbean

Central Africa with Madagascar, Mozambique and Angola

To conduct training for the PDOs in the different regions between August and September
