(ANS - Rome) - Fr Ángel Fernández Artime, the Rector Major, with the agreement of the General Council on 23 June appointed Fr Theodore Montemayor the new Provincial of the West United States (SUO).

Theodore Montemayor was born 13 December 1952 in Laredo, Texas, United States, He made his Novitiate at Ipswich and took his  perpetual vows on 27 August 1978 in Laredo. He was ordained priest on 11 June 1983 in Columbus.

Between 1991 and 2007 in Rosemead he was Principal, Vice Rector and Rector except for two years 2000-2002 when he worked in the Los Angeles community. Between 2003 and 2007 he was Director of Novices. At present he is Vice Rector and parish priest in the Bellflower Salesian community.

At Province level he was a Councillor (1999-2000; 2003-2007; Vice Provincial (2000-2003) and Delegate for Formation (2003-2007).

The need to appoint a Superior for the Province arose with the election at the end of March of the then Provincial Fr Timothy Ploch, as Concillor for the Interamerica  Region.
