(ANS - Rome) – It was an unexpected visit, but pleasant and much appreciated. Mother Yvonne Reungoat, Superior General of the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians, and Sr. Maria del Carmen Canales, Councillor for Youth Ministry, were present today Friday 28 March for the morning Eucharist presided over by the Rector Major. The homily was given by Fr Filiberto Rodríguez, former member of the General Council and now Superior of the Vice-Province of Angola.

At the beginning of Mass, Fr Fernandez Artime said, "Thank you Mother for your visit together with Sister Maria del Carmen, and thanks for your support during the Chapter and the election."

Mother Reungoat had been absent from Rome and had just returned.  Today she came to visit, as other Daughters of Mary Help of Christians had done on several occasions. Some members of their General Council had come  immediately after the election of the Rector Major, and then throughout the day until the evening concert.

Today the Chapter continueswith the election of the Regional Councillors. In accordance with tradition and the rules, “for the election of the Regional Councillors , the groups of Provinces choose the confreres to be presented to the Assembly, in a single vote by secret ballot writing one name on the ballot paper. They then present to the Assembly a list containing the names of all who received votes, and the number of votes received by each.”

The assembly is sovereign in the election of the Regional Councillors.

Today will be particularly busy because of the number of elections. Seven Regional Councillors are to be elected for the following regions: Africa- Madagascar, America-Southern Cone, Inter-America, East Asia-Oceania, Southeast Asia, Northern Europe and Mediterranean.

Next Monday, 31 March, the Chapter members will be received in audience at the Vatican by Pope Francis.
