(ANS - Rome) – At the Assembly Meeting on Wednesday 5 March, procedures for the organization of the Chapter were decided on. The Chapter Regulations were approved and the commissions formed.

The Assembly had already had an opportunity to become acquainted with the Regulations, and spent considerable time discussing some changes and the text in general. The Chapter members were given a draft of the Regulations. They are the fruit of previous experience,  with some amendments that take note of  more recent technological developments.

The changes also reflect the objectives outlined in the Rector Major’s letter of convocation, the procedures for internal and external communication on the progress of GC27, the study of the Rector Major’s report, the composition of the central coordinating committee which assists the President in guiding the work of the Chapter, the approval of the minutes, the procedures for booking interventions in the Assembly, the method of exchanging information between chapter members during the process of discernment and elections, and the secrecy and reserve that cover the election process.

One totally new regulation is interesting: "During the conduct of General Assembly Meetings, internet and cell phone services are not available in the Assembly Hall."

The Assembly approved the Regulations yesterday morning and they became effective straightaway. Then, after a period of discussion, it was decided that they should proceed with five working commissions, based on four language groups and a legal commission.

An important common element is that the Commissions should be intercultural, with members who speak more than one language.  In one commission English will be the spoken language and the other three will use the Romance languages. The texts will still be written in Italian. In the juridical commission there will certainly be members from the different language groups.

In the afternoon session, the Chapter members had a chance to see the composition of the Commissions on the internal GC27 portal.  This is a digital Chapter.  The members had previously opted for their commissions. They then elected the President, Rapporteurand Secretary of each commission, and can now proceed to organize their work.
