Mongolia – The Salesians in the country of the steppes: challenges and prospects |
(ANS - Ulaanbataar) - On 12 February, seventy-five students of the Don Bosco technical and industrial training centre in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, celebrated their graduation. This is the thirteenth class of graduates coming out of the Salesian Institute, which has an employment rate for its graduates among the highest in the country.
The school was opened in 2001 and is recognized as a Catholic educational institution by the Mongolian Ministry of Education. Belonging to the Mongolian Delegation of the Saint John Bosco Province of Vietnam, it is the only Catholic technical school in the country. It caters for young people aged between sixteen and twenty-two who wish to develop their skills in the technical field. In most cases they come from working class or disadvantaged families.
With the motto "We prepare for Life", the educational community of the school conducts courses in industrial sewing, woodwork and carpentry, auto-mechanics, plumbing and welding, and secretarial and office work.
"With deep joy we thank God for the years we have spent here and we also thank our dear superiors, benefactors, confreres and all the teachers and staff who have worked for our school and who have supported us and enabled us to reach this day!"
To achieve qualification, students who graduated on 12 February had to attend courses for two-and-a-half years in their respective subjects.
