(ANS - Rome)–Yesterday 9 December, the opening of the jubilee year of the Faculty of Social Communication of the UPS was celebrated. This jubilee in 2013 and 2014 marks the 25th anniversary of its founding as ISCOS, the Institute of Social Communication (ISCOS). The Rector Major, Fr Pascual Chávez, attended yesterday’s function.
Theprogramme of activities beganwith greetings from the Dean of the FSC, Fr Mauro Mantovani, who welcomed those present and relayed the greetings of various authorities.
Fr Pascual Chávez, as Chancellor of the UPS, spoke next expressing his good wishes to the young people and teachers of the FSC. He also referred to the importance of this institution that in the past 25 years has formed numerous professionals in communication, both religious and lay.
As a demonstration of his practical confidence in social communication and in young people, Fr Chávez also wanted to make a significant gesture: a cash donation to the Young4Young Agency for the 3per3 project, which will employ three young students for the monitoring, research and dissemination of news from three continents - Asia, Africa and America.
The activities then continued as planned, with speeches by Maria Paola Piccini, who presented the results of research on the past pupils of the School. Prof. Paola Springhetti and Vittorio Sammarco spoke about the Young4Young Agency, and the final word went to the University Rector, Fr Carlo Nanni.
Fr Chávez took advantage of his visit to the UPS to greet the sick and elderly Salesians in the infirmary and also to present his annual report to the Salesians of the Mary Seat of Wisdom Vice-Province of the UPS.
In this last intervention Fr Chávez greeted all present, now that he was coming to the end of his term as Rector Major. For the future of the Salesian Congregation, he invited all to share the sense of community as the core of the Salesian spiritual life, with due attention to the role of the Rector and the practice of personal guidance.
